The Kings of Comedy Return to the Portage Theater The Silent Film Society proudly presents the Kings of Comedy, Part III, featuring silent stars Harry Langdon, Buster Keaton and Douglas Fairbanks. All three films will be presented in 35 millimeter in a special matinee screening on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Portage Theater in Chicago. Show time is 2:30 p.m.
About the film The comedic genius of Buster Keaton is featured in the rarely-seen The Blacksmith (1922). When Buster ends up running the blacksmith shop for his boss (that not only serves the horse trade but automobiles too), things really go screwy. The zaniness continues when Buster attempts to do repairs on a Rolls Royce. Douglas Fairbanks, remembered as the great swashbuckling hero of silent pictures, was also quite successful as a comedic actor. In the full-length feature Flirting with Fate, Fairbanks plays a pitiful soul who has experienced a string of setbacks and wants to end it all, except he's too much of a coward to do it himself and he hires a hit man to do it for him. He finds himself in another dilemma when his fortunes turn for the better, and now he needs to call off his assassin. Acclaimed theater organist Dennis Scott and the West End Jazz Band, under the direction of Mike Bezin, will provide live photoplay accompaniment for all three films. Ticket Info
